Breath Therapy

Physiologically speaking, the body needs oxygen for the chemical reactions that power our cells, and it also needs a way of getting rid of carbon dioxide, a product of those reactions. Normally both needs are satisfied by breathing: oxygen from the air is drawn into the lungs where it dissolves into the blood, while carbon dioxide is released to be exhaled.


The breath is a reliable indicator of the status of the body, mind and emotions. Ask a Hospice care giver about a person's breath as death approaches. There are dramatic visible changes in the breathing pattern. Chronic and excessive stress also powerfully alter and thus effect the breath.

About 90% of the body's life-energy is created by oxygen. All bodily functions and physical actions are powered by oxygen. Our brain uses forty percent of the oxygen we inhale. Our ability to think, feel, and act depend on the energy produced by oxygen. Low energy can disrupt the body's ability to function. Oxygen deprivation over time can impair the immune system, cause diseases and hasten the aging process.

MEDITATION

We are bombarded daily with thousands of images and sounds, all feeding both our fears and our desires. Linking happiness and status to looking a certain way;  buying, having, doing. None which have delivered what was promised--and never will.

We may feel strong emotions to our current individual and/or  world circumstances- thus we may experience extreme stress & pressure and have body/mind responses of pain, dis-satisfaction, disgust, anger or rage — Meditation teaches us how not to give in to our likes and dislikes nor react to situations according to desires and aversions.

So, right now, in this moment............
Take a DEEP breath in.

C'mon, Inhale......fill your belly like a balloon........ Now Exhale.............Ahhhhhhh......... and say to yourself, "This, too, shall pass."

REIKI

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei (ray) which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki (key) which is the Japanese word for "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that allows everyone to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve health and enhance the quality of life. Negative emotions and beliefs are dissolved. The energy fields of the body are repaired to allow the natural flow of energy to resume. Sessions can be given in a seated position or reclined.Client remains fully clothed.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance flowing through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Our belief is that there's not any one single formula that can be automatically applied to a student. We understand that the 'cookie-cutter' approach doesn't work when it comes to yoga.  Limitations, restrictions, interests, goals and needs are all taken into account.  This allows every student’s practice to be personalized and therefore extremely effective. Even in group setting,  Susan will assess each participant on an individual basis and instruct accordingly.
